The Department of History at Washington State University invites applications for a permanent, full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor on our Pullman, WA campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in and overseeing the department’s History and Social Studies Education programs as well as teaching courses in their area of specialization. Applicants should provide evidence of a well-defined research program in history or a related discipline as well as experience with secondary education and working with students from diverse backgrounds. Areas of research expertise are open, but successful candidates should bring teaching and research expertise that expands the department’s ability to mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This faculty member will also serve on the Teacher Education Committee and Advisory Board in the College of Education. The person hired for this position will teach a 2/2 load. The position will begin August 16, 2024.
Required Qualifications:
Earned PhD in History or a related discipline at the time of appointment and have proven or potential record of successful teaching and instruction at the secondary level or postsecondary level, a demonstrated record of commitment to educational equity, a demonstrated record of or potential for research and a well-defined research agenda, and the ability to advise graduate students at the MA and PhD levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three years of experience at any capacity teaching secondary school in the United States or other related experiences working in secondary education, a demonstrated understanding of history or social studies pedagogy, and a demonstrated commitment to underrepresented communities.
